Magazine vouchers and Tesco

Do most of you hand over the money off coupons for magazines without purchasing them in Tesco? If so, do they accept them without quibble? Although I hand over vouchers for stuff I haven't bought, I've usually got something similar or a different brand in my trolley, so I can say I got confused or was tempted by one of their great deals. But I never buy magazines, so would I get away with it?

Yes tibbies mum tesco take all the vouchers from newspapers and
magazines etc.The only ones they dont take are coupons for say asda stores only. You dont have to buy the product as long as the store sells it0 -
Just to add a word of caution. I agree with Nudge that Tescos accept mag coupons - both those FROM mags, and those FOR mags, BUT, and a big BUT too. The t&c are that you have to actually buy the product, and if your sa is in an unco-operative mood, or the store is having a crackdown on coupons/vouchers they can and will refuse to accept them. Again a positive friendly attitude when you hand them over, and say nicely "Do you accept these ?" or the confident approach is to just hand the coupon over while you carry on packing does help. BUT it is no guarentee.
I have had coupons refused one day, and accepted the next. There is no guarentee in my opinion.
In June both my Tesco and Asda was having a real crackdown, and refused every coupon unless I had actually bought the item.
July they seem to be accepting everything I offer.
Best advice is to give it a try, and you will soon find out. After all they can only say no ( although sometimes the way they say no leaves a lot to be desired !!)
Would suggest you give it a try well before the use by date, then if the answer is no, you still have plenty of time to try someone else another day. HTH;)0 -
Another word of warning - Tescos are cracking down on the coupons printed out from the internet. I was stopped yesterday after using c. £4 of coupons (5 coupons, 4 of which were internet coupons I'd printed out) on a £85 shop at the self-scan tills. A supervisor and security guard stopped me just as I was about to leave to tell me that they thought they were photocopies. They were perfectly pleasant, but they obviously didn't believe me that they could be printed out from the internet and asked me to bring in the URLs (which are not shown on print outs of the Family Circle and Uncut pdf coupons) and speak to the duty manager if I wanted to use any more. From now on I'll stick to non-internet coupons and staffed tills as I really don't want to be stopped by security again - regardless of how pleasant they were, it was still embarassing.0

Thanks for the word of warning, how embarassing!!!!
I'm too much of a chicken to use the self scan tills, always think I'll do something wrong and draw attention to myself. So I end up feeling guilty when I hand over my vouchers to the SA, how silly am I???
But up to now I've done okay, but there is a lack of young male SA at my local Tesco and all the female staff look like jobsworths, so I've decided to change my shopping time and go in the evenings hoping there will be more students or such like on the check-outs.0 -
At Tesco Leicester - Hamilton yesterday i was refused a manufacturer 20p off coupon coupon on a £20 shop. The lady at the till said it is because i have not purchased the item. Also went on to say i know we used to accept them on anything but the policy now is you must buy the item. I hope its not true but im starting to believe her because she seemed like she was on the lookout for coupon abuse as she told me i had not bought the item before she even had a proper look at it or when was in my shopping! Very sharp!
Feel like i have lost all confidence in this form of money saving as this is only the third time ever i have tried to use a coupon - the previous two also being 20p ones!!!!!They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!0 -
I normally just hand a bunch over and ask if they can check whether these will scan.
If they want to hand them back then fair enough, there's always another day.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that!!I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!0 -
My largest local Tesco says they will take 5 different coupons per transaction, so I often split my shopping into 2 and the SA's on the tills don't comment when I then hand over 5 coupons each time. I say I am shopping for my Mum, (which I often do anyway as she is elderly/disabled).
This week, a female SA told me their branch had confirmed the policy in a staff meeting, which in that store is now a maximum of 5 different coupons, as long as they don't exceed 50% of the shopping and don't exceed £5 total value. Quite easy to remember and no embarrassment there now - I used lots this week (got turned down - once - for an internet-printed one but I just handed over another instead and used the internet one an hour later in the same store!).:D
And, to the OP, no I don't bother to buy 'something similar' in Tesco or Asda as it is their policy to accept coupons without buying the item. But I did do just that in Sainsbury's when I was there the other month (even though they do not accept coupons unless you buy the product)!
I had my Mum in her wheelchair with the trolley in front like a big train, we bought a lot of stuff and I think the guy was distracted - there was no way he was going to check my shopping bags or the receipt. I just handed over a few 'magazine ones' as I'd bought other mags, and Warburtons ones as I'd bought other bread rolls, and Goodfellas ones (as I'd bought pizza).
The point is that coupons scan anyway, even in Sainsbury's, so you just need to find an SA who will take them. I stick to Tesco/Asda now though!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Every Tesco is different - I have three Tescos within a 10 mile radius and only one of them is happy to take the coupons but even they will only take magazine/newspaper coupons if you buy a magazine/newspaper (doesn't have to be the same one). My Asda is the same. The only store that is really coupon friendly and helpful is Waitrose.0

At my local tescos the assistants always refuse the coupons if I dont prchase the goods, but my asda does.
If I got a few coupons I use the self scan..they dont argue!
ps Tescos sent me some £4 off when spend £40 week 1,2,3,4 etc...U can use these all on the same shop at SS tills
( £4 x 6 = £24 off in one shop) every little helps!!!!!!£900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x0 -
Used a £5 and a £3 Somerfield voucher through self scan at Tesco's today on 2 different shops. I checked that they get sent to NCH clearing and not SF HQ.0
