Very puzzling tv question

When I bought my TV with built in freeview I used to unplug at night but had to reinstall every morning. I was told by the Helpline to always leave on standby.
This cannot be as safe as unplugging!
Are all the new TVs the same or is it just Bush.
Thanks.

Mine has no problems being switched off, and it's a cheapo minor brand model (Neon, which I think is the same as Cello)

I asked the Helpline if leaving the TV on standby was safe but they could not guarantee that it was.

These days, no Helpline would risk saying that they could guarantee that it's safe. But in fact, the risk of fire with modern domestic appliances is very low - power supplies are built with self-extinguishing components and over-current protection.

It also sounds like they were telling you a story to get out of having to deal with a return. No recent Freeview tuner should forget its settings just because you turn the power off.

As I prefer to unplug, will it cause any damage to the tv if I reinstall each day?

If this is a fault with the tv, I would return it as I am well within the guarantee time.

It is perfectly reasonable for someone to turn off their tv when not in use... saving the planet and all that.

Why not ask the Helpline if you are expected to go through the install process every time you turn it on?

I imagine it would be difficult for them to answer 'yes' to that question.

Which will naturally lead into... "I have a faulty tv".

Spoke to Argos Tech Line and they said this should not happen and they will send an engineer to my home,
    Thank you so much!:j
