my replacement condensing boiler (for a large 4 bed house) with a bit of new electrical wiring and a new gas link from the gas meter to the boiler, cost 1,380 two years ago with a local installer .. it took two men one day to fix but they did work hard0

That's around the price one should pay - maybe up to £2k, but no more.0 -
Don't forget that's only to buy it, installation will be on top but should only be a day's work unless lots has to be done to the rest of the system.
Yes, I'm aware of installation costs but unless you are changing lots of things it shouldn't cost the earth. Plumbers' incomes have suffered as a result of the recession and there is more competition than ever before, so you should be able to get a decent price.
