Someone drove into my car!

Someone drove into my car while it was parked.
They were trying to do a U turn and hit it more than once.
I was not there but I have a witness who managed to take down the first part of the number plate, make and colour, and the name of the hire company written on the side (they have 4/5 branches in the south east).
The only other evidence a part from the pain on my car is the plastic cover from the centre of the wheel, with the brand of the van written on it.
I looked at the invoice from the garage and the cost of the repair was about £900.
Now the insurance are investigating, but are they likely to be able to establish liability, or will I lose my ncb and excess????

Anyone?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.0 -
I'd go and report it to the police , they are more likely to be able to narrow it down from the information you have , they then supply you with any details they obtain.

Definitely report it to the Police. I think it is an offence to leave the scene of an accident (no matter how minor regarding no bodily harm) without actually stopping, leaving details etc - Hitting your car once is an accident but repeatedly surely will be careless even mindless)
It needs sorting as you can't leave your car in pain
( just a joking about the missing t in your first post!!) 0 -
that will loose you one ncd as you do not hold the whole number plate....if you did have it then its a different story
fill in a collision report for a hit and run and see if the police can help however you could have tried to claim the damage from MIB one of my mates did this where a there was a witness and he saw the whole thing however there was no number plate and MIB paid out on the basis of the other driver not being able to be traced.0
