Thinking of buying a laptop to replace an ageing desktop at home. Need to do normal bits from work i.e. WP, spreadsheet, publisher, etc. And, of course, surf the net (possibly wireless although not set up for this). Also want to be able to watch DVD's on it.
Budget no more than £400 - £500. Any advice etc.
On the DVD issue can you watch any region DVD's on a laptop or do you need to hack, change settinds or what? How easy is that or whatever?
All advice welcome please.
Thanks.

Look at the UK Dell Factory Outlet (google it).. they'll have some very decent laptops for around that price tag. Its usually cheaper as they have been returned due to wrong model or something.. I bought from there and my laptop is amazing.. worth £700 plus and i got it for £500
The models you should look for are Inspiron 6000
Make sure it has 512mb of ram but any model should do for your needs
Find the outlet here:

let you know? what for? why would he need anyones help to break region settings?
my laptop will play anything, but thenagain i have a lot of codecs installed... it could be an issue of codecs (many of which are free) or you will be able to find software to hack it... you don't need a hacker, or anyone like discodave to do it for you... just post on here and someone will give you a link to a solution.0 -
i've got a proper exe file, that once installed within minutes, lets you play any region DVD - its called Neverexpire0

the £419 looks good for your needs. Its no games machine, but should be ok for DVD`s and Office stuff. Also includes wireless, so all you would need to get would be a Wireless Access Point or Modem/Router.0 -

Yes simply connect them together using an Ethernet cable.
