Sky Plus Box

Hi, my sky plus box died so I've just bought another on ebay. All connected up ok and red power light is on, but I can't get the box to actually turn on? Have I been done or is there a simple solution? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Do you mean it will not come out of stand by?

I think the red power light is the standby light.

Have you tried all the usual turn off, wait, turn on again.

My last one wouldnt come off standby and i had to have it replaced.
Hope that s not happening to you.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Surely Sky should replace it for you, as it is there property.

    Have you spoken to them?

It's not Sky's property, it's the subscriber's property. The Sky warrranty on new boxes (and indeed, all Sky kit) lasts 12 months. After that, you are on your own as far as repair is concerned.
VM is different, because you rent the boxes and never own them-at the end of the subscription they have to be returned.

Sounds like OP has been done, have you tried a forced reset?

Switch off the receiver at the mains wall socket. Press and hold the front panel "backup" button and switch the mains power back on. Continue to hold the button for 20 seconds or until the LEDs all light (depends on the make/model). As soon as this happens, you'll see a message on the screen (only if you have connected via the TV Scart). Leave the receiver for at least 15 minutes to download the software via satellite.

If no joy then its probably an ex box, and has joined the choir eternal.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

How can it be the property of Sky, the OP has just purchased it from eBay?

Have you got the correct updated Sky card inserted?

That won't be necessary. The box should come out of standby with or without a card.
    Dave.
  • Both my Sky+HD and Sky+ boxes hate coming out of standby after a full power down... they always come on in the end though - just power them down at the wall for 10-20secs then switch power on so red light comes on.... then every couple of minutes try the power on button on the box and hey presto! It's a common problem!
