Door lock problem

I have a uPVC front door it locks fine but when you try to remove the key its not possible, the key is not going completely home – if you know what I mean? Can anyone help please? Should I try some WD40?

Thanks

WD40 is OK but graphite powder would be better

Can you try a different key? Does it do the same thing?

It may be dirt or one of the pins may be slipping. If it does not correct itself, you may be better off spending £10 and changing it

We had this problem and it got worse! We could only lock the door from the outside and had to walk all around the house to get in again!!

Have you tried putting a key in each side of the lock and moving them gently until they are level. Ours moved inside and had to be re-aligned.

    Hope this helps.

Fit a new cylinder, might not sound money saving, but it will be a lot cheaper than phoning out a locksmith if the lock packs in when the door is locked.

I bet you any money you like that when you had them done you went for the cheapest quote.

See if it's still under guarantee.

Thanks for all advice, tried some 3in1 oil in lock and tried key in each side of lock and wiggling neither worked. Going to buy new cylinder, please can someone tell me how to find out what size i need, do I need to take old one out to find out the size?

    Thanks
  • Yes, you will need to get the lock out first. Then measure the overall length and the two measurements from the exact centre of the grub screw hole to each end. The grub screw and locking lever are not always in the centre. Depends on the door. Before you dash out and buy try a liberal dose of WD40 when the lock is out. Just remember, the lever must be protruding slightly when you try to extract the key Good luck.
