Quality kitchen desired - alno?

Hello

I have really fallen in love with the Alno Starline in white gloss range. Ive had a design done through an independant retailer in sheffield an been quoted £17,000 for the whole kitchen fitted. That includes 19 units £4500 gettacore worktop, under counter integrated neff fridge and freezer, cooker and extractor.

The problem is, im not a professional footballer so that is just too much. The units supply only I can get for £9500 from the same store and Id be quite happy to fit them myself and source the appliences seperatly. I think this is what i'll probably do unless I can find an alternative.

Ive been looking for other makes with the same style - clean simple lines no handles etc and have seen the cucina colore from mereway. I was hoping for your thoughts on these units and the best place to see them/order, or if they any good and how the price would compare to the Alno. Are there any other ranges which I should consider??

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Richard

    Hi

Alno as far as I am concerned is over priced, as a German kitchen manufacturer. In Germany they are regarded as a lower end product, for builders etc. It is more highly regarded over here because its John Lewis' German product.

We do Schuller as our lower end German product, I think it is far better than Alno and cheaper.

    Good luck.

    Thanks

But who is "we" and where can I find your store? Im seriously confused because I don't mind paying for quality I just don't like being ripped off. Have you seen the mereway range or are they in a seperate "class" altogether?

Say for 10K including a seamless worktop (around 9m length) what would you reccommend? Sorry to hassle you but ive read some of you posts before and you seen to know what your talking about.

    Thanks again

Magnets Urban Liniare is very similar to the Alno Starline, and it certainly wont be as pricey. You also have a similar product from Hacker (can't remember the name of it though)...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • We're just in the middle of installing a Cucina Colore kitchen from Wentworth which I believe is the same brand that John Lewis do. It's very clean and modern and so far the units seem to be of good quality. As they've been sourced from a local independent they come with a 10 year guarantee.

Our kitchen came in at a similar price to yours so I don't think you'll save any money on the Wentworth range if you choose that instead. If you want someone to do it all for you, with a guarantee, and go for really good quality units, worktops and appliances then I think you'll end up paying a similar price. You can choose cheaper options, it depends how long you plan to keep them and whether you can live with them or not. We plan to keep our kitchen for 20 years plus.

Have you tried Howdens, Wickes or Ikea? I understand their quality is good but I'm not sure if they do any clean, modern designs.

    Good luck with your search

Cheer for the advice, much appriciated.

Ive been into magnet and seen the similar range but I dont think the proportions are quite right with the size of the doors/gaps.

Bibliophile, when you said the cucina colour would be the same price as my original quote, did you mean 17k or 10K.

I've spoke to a friend of mine and he can get the units and worktops at trade prices so I think I'm going to go for that option, will save me a fortune. I can fit them myslelf.

Also while i'm here does anyone know anything about those instant hot water taps - are they any good and do they replace a kettle?

The qooker tap looks great, but not £800 great. I'll buy one after my lottery win. :D

RichLill - probably this is not the way you want to go but a friend of mine is a retired banker who now lives in France. Some of her colleagues were ordering Bulthaup kitchens direct from Germany at a reduced price (compared to rip off London) from this firm and they would come over and fit it themselves. She recently had a Bulthaup kitchen fitted, complete with one of those seamless worktops and Miele appliances for something like Eu 20k which sounds cheap to me. I'm not familiar with German brands but they do have others on their website including Siematic - have a look. www.kuechenprofi-gerwens.com

RichLill - we had one of those hot water taps installed at every kitchen point in the firm where I was working. They're great when they work but within a year or so the build up of limescale from the water would cause problems and they needed an overhaul. Obviously this wouldn't happen so quickly in a home environment.
