hi, and congrats on passing your test
depends on you as a rider, how many minors?
how old are you?0 -
As above - also did you pass via DAS or on a 125 (does DAS still exist?).
Does the 5K include your insurance costs?0 -
Neither. 1st/2nd bike was a CBR1000F third bike Hayabusa. Thats me 3 years passed test on 15th march and just bought a Ducati SP2 and it's absolutely gutless by comparison (but not a bad bike, handles well and is still fast enough for what I use it for).0

I thought you were looking for a car?0

this is me:
26, riding for 10 years, 10 years NCB GSXR600 (k1 with a k6 front end swap)
Passed my test first time with 3 minors and bought an SV650 as my first bike for approx £3,000
Get as cheap a bike as possible, because it will slide down the road at some point, i was gutted when i came off my SV due to ice
i suggest getting a cheap bike for 12 months build up some NCB then look at newer bikes
PS, i hope you're old enough/mature enough to handle a sports 6, as i know some idiots who think they can ride, and they just get in my way - please, please don't think that a 6 is guttless - mine does 170 mph, and will leave all cars worth less than 100k, and most other bikes too - plus, no matter what anyone says - wheelies ARE big and clever :j
Have you got any friends to ride with? where abouts are you in the UK?0 -
My ex had a CBR600F (52 plate) until she parked it in the front of a Taxi (well, according to the court the taxi driver parked his car under her bike - but I prefer to think of it the other way round) and aside from the downpipes rotting out that thing seemed pretty bulletproof and it wasnt too bad to work on.
600s tend to be easier to get hold of than 500s I believe too......Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
an RR will be expensive, i'd suggest a FS (predecessor to the RR) but they're holding their value
If i sold my bike tomorrow i'd make more money than i paid for it 2 years ago!0 -
In answer to the original question. Most 500s are twins, most 600s are 4-cylinders. I'd go for a 600. But if you've only just passed your test, I'd recommend getting something sensible, at least for the first year - perhaps halfway between your direct access bike and where you'd really like to be. Maybe a cbr600, a hornet or a fazer - all in the 80+bhp area.0

What about the Suzuki SV650, V twin lump sounds pretty good (with an open pipe). Trouble is though being 650cc pushes it into the next road tax bracket.
A 500cc would be a dog, what are the options a GS500E pmsl! Mind you Bimota did that nice 500cc stroker a few years back
A slightly older CBR 600 (not an RR) would be a good bet, still fast as f%ck, and mostly bulletproof.
£5k for a first bike is quite a lot, especially if you stack it......0
