Hi, just been to the Dr's for my supply of 6 mth pill Marvelon . Saw a female GP not seen before and she took my blood pressure and said it was dangerously high, 'stroke material' was her words. Said I was stressed anyway, rushed there, go to Oz in just over a week, for 6 weeks and so much to do before I go etc..... and she checked and said actally the last few times I have been in for the pill it was high and had she seen me she would have not given me Marvelon.
She has given me a prescription for desogestrel - cerazette and said it is a pill I take every day and should be better for me to reduce BP. Said I was aprehensive as it had previously taken me a while to find a pill that I found suited me and didn't cause moods swings, manic depresssion, irregular periods, etc... Anyone had any experinence of this pill. Just reading google now...... PS - I'm 29 if that helps.

I take cerazette and have had no problems at all!0

I'm on cerazette and it gives me very light and sometimes very long periods. Not sure I prefer this or not to the regular-as-clockwork-but-very-heavy periods I had on logynon...0

I have been on cerazette for years because of highish blood pressure and migraines etc and i havent had a period since i started taking it,
it is fab for me, cant fault it0 -
I'm on cerazette too - overweight and iffy blood pressure. It's been great and I don't have periods. I can't fault it either, I've been taking it for years now. (I'm 32)."If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney0

I was changed onto this pill from Microgynon. I have had no problems with it all. No periods (bonus!) and my moodswings have all but vanished.
But obviously everyone is different so if you do get problems then do go back to your doctors to maybe discuss other options.0 -
I don't want to worry you but you do need to inform your travel insurance provider about your blood pressure. It should not cause a problem if you have already taken out cover, but they need to be aware in case of any problems whilst you are away.Gone ... or have I?0

I was changed from Marvelon to cerazette for the same reason - have not had a period as such since - just some light spotting now and then. HTH0

I was changed from marvelon to cerazette for similar reasons however be aware although your periods may stop it can cause extended bleeding! I started taking it and about 3 weeks later bled- and continued, at varying rates, for over 3 weeks- I was worried but googled it and apparently a side effect:(
Hope this isnt the case for you as that would nt be timed well for your trip:eek:0 -
Thanks for your replies. Very helpful and have put my mind at rest. If my periods go completely then that will be good. On Marvelon I bled all through the 7 pill free days, normally around 10 days and whilst in Oz I was going to not have the break to avoid the period. I hope I don't bleed when I'm away - not good when I'm going to be in Oz of all places! I think I am worried about the changes with pills especially when you can't dictate when you have your period really and it seems quite random! I will keep you all posted over the next week before I go!0

Are they saying that Marvelon caused the high BP, or that it made it dangerous for you to continue taking it?My TV is broken!
