Hi there.
I have just installed Linux Mint onto my Laptop and thought I bet get some free Anti-Virus on it.
When I try and install the AVG its telling me that it is already installed.
So what i was wanting to know is if it comes with the AVG already installed?
Thanks.

The Mint/Ubuntu repositories offer Clamav as a supported anti-virus package, with ClamTK as a GUI front end.0

No, you need to use the package manager to check if it is installed and, if not, to install it.
It's a command line program, so if you want to do the simple point & click bit, also install ClamTK, which will allow you to do this.0 -
never used mint linux, but apparently check herein terminal, type
which avg
it seems to just locate where the application is installed and if you run it, you should be fine.

If ClamTK reports that the GUI is out of date (the version in the repositories usually is), the latest version is available at http://clamtk.sourceforge.net/
You want the Debian/Ubuntu download.0 -
does this usually matter if you use the "testing" repositories? i usually use apt instead of synaptic (or whatever gui people use) and pretty much always after installing a new system set up the latest testing repo's0

fair enough. are all these antivirus "linux alternatives" actually on access scanners or just different av companies product that does the same as clam scanner in a different gui?
i remember mcafee claimed they had it with red hat 9 support, they claimed it would work ootb (at least the sales guy did) ended up borking my test server, lucky i didnt put it straight onto the production server like my boss wanted me to do :P0
