RJ45 ADSL Modem?

Hi there, I have a broadband connection in my house and I have just bought one of the new slimline PS2s. I want to hook it up to Broadband but do now want to use it connected to the PC as the PC will not be using the internet at the same time as it. What I want is a modem that I can connect straight to the PS2 and plug into the wall socket. Or if it is possible an adapter to convert a USB connection modem into an RJ45 connection. Again I must stress I won't be using the PC at the same time as the PS2 so I only want a simple connection as I do not want to go into wireless networking since they are at different ends of the house. Any help would be appreciated on this matter.

There are USB to Lan cables for PC but they wouldn't work for what you want. Your PS2 wouldn't be able to tell the ADSL modem to connect. (They also require drivers to create a virtual LAN port on the USB).
As you don't want to go wireless then the cheapest option would be to buy a 1 LAN port ADSL router. I think https://www.dabs.com still do them in their value range.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

First one will do the job as it has an ethernet (LAN) port and an ADSL modem.
No to the US Robotics one (the second one) as it doesn't have a built in ADSL modem.
Obviously you'll need to plug your PC in when you get it to configure the ADSL settings and the DHCP server.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

So I need to set it up with my PC and then the PS2 will work with the modem without the PC? Won't that meddle with my current ADSL modem in the PC?0

shouldn't ... obviously you unplug your current modem before configuring the router.
You'll only be able to have one in use at a time.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

a 4 port modem like this might be in order, unless you alreadt have an ethernet switch?
