Halifax overdraft fees

Good Morning

Just checked my bank statement today & there is a charge of £36 for unarranged overdraft & £16 for an arranged overdraft fee.

My arranged overdraft is £600 & I have not went over this so I am slightly confused as to where the unarranged overdraft fee is coming from.

Is this just a practice that halifax are doing or are all banks going down this route?
If it is just halifax I will need to seriously consider changing bank account.

Between the overdraft fees & monthly fee for the account that is £64 my bank has took off me this month.

They charge £1 for each day that you are overdrawn wthin your limit (£2 if the balances is more than £2.5k overdrawn).

£5 for each day that you are over your agreed limit.

You really need to familiarise yourself with the charging structure of the account to avoid it costing you an excessive amount. If it isn't already, and you pay £1,000 or more in to the account each month, you should ask them to change it to a Reward account and they will pay you £5 a month for it.

Alternatively, change banks. But there is little point changing if you don't make yourself aware of how the new bank will charge you.

You might be best advised to go over to the Debt-free Wannabe section of the forum. You can get hints on how to get out of overdraft by spending a little less or earning a little more.

(Charges made at the end of February relate to your account balances in January).
  • There must be more to it than that I was within my arranged overdraft limit & they still charged me £36 for an urranged overdraft.

I am already with the reward account.

Thanks for your reply & I will have a look at the debt-free wannabee section.
