Baggage limits

I am a bit confused about something.

I am travelling with Air south West next week.
Free baggage allowance is 20kg per person.
Maximum bag weight permitted is 32Kg.

Does this mean that if there are 2 of you travelling that you can have one bag of 25kg and one bag of 15kg or do they have to be 20kg each.

My husband and I interpreted the wording differently and I have heard about some airlines being picky (but might be a low single bag limit).

Basically the question is - can you combine luggage allowances provided you don't exceed the single bag limit?

Obviously if anyone has specific info about air south west then that would be great too.

It means maximum weight of any individual bag is 32kg - it's a health and safety thing. You'll be ok with a 25kg and a 15kg (or a 32kg and an 8kg - not recommended, your scaleage may vary...) plus 5kg each cabin baggage.

It's actually 7kg hand luggage with air south west.

I just remember some friends telling me that they were forced to open their suitcases and shuffle things around at the checkin desk because one was a few kgs over and another a few kgs under. I don't think it was anything outrageous only 23kg or 24kgs.

Must have been down to a low bag limit (32kg is very generous and as you say difficult to lift and manouver)

In my recent experience*, although not with your airline, as long as you check in together they will combine the allowances - as long as no single item weighs more than 32kgs.

This policy seems to apply irrespective of whether it's a family or, as in a recent business trip, simply work colleagues.

I think that Charmless Airways (sorry, Ryanair) won't allow you to combine luggage weights so you are limited.

I'd check the weight of the bags on the bathrom scales before leaving home and sort things out at home before going to the airport.

Thanks for the links, but it is still not clear from that whether you can combine or not.

I would interpret it as not from that info.
    My husband thinks you can.

Obviously from the experiences given with some airlines you can and others you can't, so I'm going to give them a call to clarify it once and for all.

My mother-in-law has bought a large suitcase. We take medium ones because 20kgs rattles around in a large suitcase and things get creased.
She's 79 and not been flying before so I keep trying to explain but she's quite forgetful so I'm worried about it.

Just called them and they said allowances CAN be combined.
Phew - getting all worked up there.

It's just my mother-in-law is in a wheelchair and the car will be miles away so I know it's gonna be a real hassle if we have to take anything back to the car.

She's never been flying before so she doesn't understand the process and the restrictions. She's used to going on coaches where they are pretty leniant with luggage.
