Gordon Brown the liar

Can we trust him? He seems to have lied about defence funding on numerous occasions, constantly claiming it has increased year on year in real terms, then we find out that in 3 years it didnt! That cant just be a mistake, surely! Or is he that clueless that he cant add up properly (quite a bad thing if you're a chancellor!)
Is he telling us the truth about the economy and the proposals for tackling the country's debt?

All politicians are lying thieves.
They do not care about you, your family or even the country.
All they want is to be elected."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Silly and naive question. Politicians are all 'economical' with the truth. The difference with Gordon Brown is that he has been chancellor for ten years and prime minister for three years. You would think he would be above all of that. He is not.
He hasn't really told us much about tackling the country's debt except to say he would halve it by 2014 or so. I can say that the world will end tomorrow. It doesn't mean to say it will.0 -
All politicians are lying thieves.
Indeed they are all liars, but it takes a special kind of liar to state as fact that defence spending was increased to the Chilcott Enquiry panel and then have to write a letter to apologise when the reality is that spending was cut and the deaths of British soliders could have been prevented a certain chancellor hadn't cut corners in defence spending.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -

I can find the link.
But it basically said that politicians can say what they like, but also they have no requiement to do it.
Ie they get elected on policies they have no requiement to put through.
What a crock.0 -

Exactly. That is my point. Brown seems to be as brass necked as they come. I honestly cant believe he had the nerve to lie to all the relatives of dead soldiers about this. The man doesnt deserve any respect.0 -

Actually he (and the Chancellor) have said absolutely nothing about halving the debt.
What has been said is that they aim to halve the deficit. Which is not the same thing.
The deficit is annual borrowing, added to the running total of debt from previous years.
So, halving the deficit only slows the rate at which overall debt is accumulating and is having to be serviced - with interest payments that pretty much equal the Education budget in 2010, and in 2011 will equal the entire Defence budget.

- change the year drop-down, Interest goes from £27Bn in 2010 to £42Bn in 2011.0 -
You have to watch carefully the wording Brown uses with everything he says. And even then he still lies on top of it...0

I don't have a problem with politicians lying really, we all have to from time to time and simply put, I wouldn't want the leaders of the country to always tell the exact truth - we'd probably be bankrupt/invaded in a matter of days.
I do have a bit of a problem with them lying about lying when it's clear as day they have been caught with their pants on fire. That goes for politicians of all colours though GB has surely turned this into an art form.
Oh, and that MP who remarked that GB didn't say he had abolished 'Boom and Bust' but that he had in fact claimed to have abolished 'Tory boom and bust' Not strictly a lie but he's up there too. Pure class.Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -
i'm not sure about whether he lies or not - but i do know that his judgment of his reign as chancellor and p.m have been a disaster for this country . he had his hand on the tiller and led us into this recession , you do not have to be a financial genius to work out that it would all end in tears and he could have done alot more to prevent it , he also has a poor grasp of reality with his constant " the tories are the party of doing nothing " jibe . he seems to think that he is tottaly blameless ......... the sooner he goes the better0

"The days of boom and bust are gone" - he used to repeat this constantly when he was chancellor. Now he's led us into the biggest bust for decades.
He also sold off our gold reserves at rock bottom price back in the late 90s.0
