B&Q 20% off.. compost?

Does the 20% offer apply to the special offers, eg multipurpose compost when you get a better price for buying more bags? I usually only go to the village garden centre but will be in town this weekend and could get to B&Q (or even Asda) for any garden bargains that are going, I don't have any compost yet and there are seeds to be sown...!

I would be careful with B&Q's tomato grow in bags. I bought one of their small ones last year, planted 3 home grown plants which grew for a couple of weeks and then died. Similar plants were fine in pots. It was a mystery to me and I won't buy their compost again.:(

Confused... do I still have to be spending £50 AFTER the 20% discount, (so having to spend nearly £70 minimum) or does it mean a total bill of £50-something at the checkout then gets 20% taken off?

it would typically mean you buy goods totaling £50 then they take of the 20% so if your goods came to £50 before the discount they would charge you £40

Yes you can include the special offer composts, I bought mostly compost for my £50 since I have plants on order and seeds ready to start but nothing to grow them in. Bought some of the 33 litre veg growbags which are £1.58 each or 4 for £5 and also some of the 70litre miracle grow compost where they are £6.98 each or 2 for £12.

I don't actually intend using the growbags as growbags if that makes sense, I'll be splitting them and using them to fill potato planters and asda flexi-tubs for growing my veggies, but they work out cheaper than the other composts.

Thanks Snapdragon, I didn't go today after all but will try tomorrow. I'm wondering about potatoes, I have loads of black-lined bags I could use. Only did two buckets of them last year, it was hardly worth it. I think the amount of compost I'd need to fill a season's worth of black bags will make them into very expensive potatoes, I guess the only MSE way to grow them is in the ground, and I just can't dig our beastly clay. Need seed compost too, and canes, but compost more than anything!

You could be right about it not saving money but I'm a total beginner as regards growing my own veggies, so as much as anything this year will be a learning experience.

and with the B&Q grow bags being 33litres it will take 2 to fill the potato planter, so £2. They claim upto 26lbs of pots but it will depend on how much actually grows as to whether it is money saving but hopefully at least they'll be tasty.

We have always done well with the B&Q grow bags, no problems at all. You need the regular ones though NOT PEAT FREE. My dad has used them for years and grows loads of tomatoes, but he puts the grow bag compost in pots for his tomatoes. They need the longer root space, especially when they become thirsty when it gets hot.
