You can sow hardy annuals outside now - love-in-a-mist, larkspur and scabious will be sown by me this weekend, though the last two aren't annuals.

What else? Candytuft, poppies, clarkia, poached egg plants, marigolds, nastursiums, anything that says hardy annual on the packet. Sow them in groups or rows so you can discriminate between them and weeds as they come up.
  • i tried poppy seeds on the grass last year but they didnt come up! The soil needs to be really fine and raked.
