'For a limited time only'

Hope this helps someone. (Even when half price they are still not the cheapest for me!)

Hmmm... pity they cost more than twice as much as my cheapest quote!

My insurance renewal from my present company is £224. The Tesco quote, for slightly less cover, is £245 and that is supposed to be half-price. I don't think so!
  • Is this 50% discount real? I've just tried and got a quote that was slightly more expensive than others that didn't have this kind of discount, as did my mother-in-law. When she called them they said that next years quote won't be double. So how can they justify the 50%? Do the same rules apply to insurance discounts as they do to something like furniture (previous price charged for a certain period at some store or other etc.)?

the best way to find out if they are on the fiddle is get the half price quote on the last day of their offer{keep a copy of it},and then a full price on the next day..if its not double the price then contact them and the consumers..they do not like bad publicity..

Wouldn't touch it if they offered it for free !!!!
Had a bad experience with their car insurance where they used dirty tricks to avoid a pay out after a near fatal crash. Speaking to lots of people subsequently (including the car hire firm they used to get me a replacement car after lots of arguing) I find that they have a reputation as being awkward payers on claims within the industry. (I wish I had a pound for everyone that said "I could have told you that" after the event !)

The very expensive lesson that I learned from this was don't always judge the insurance premium by price alone but by the service received (ie payout, reputation and ease of use/help).

A policy that only charges £100 but doesn't pay out is nowhere near as good as a policy that charges £200 but pays out when you need the claim !!!

As a keen MSE'er that has slashed all my costs back to the bare minimum I chose to insure my car and house with more expensive companies just in case I ever need to call on the policy in the future !

All that glitters is not gold !
  • Back in June I got a 'half price quote' (for £68) valid for 3 months. Went back in Aug and had great difficulty in getting the quote agreed - had to send copy of their email. The thing is, renewal for same coverage from Tesco was £78 (last year's insurance was with them). So, 'half price' was £68, renewal was £78 - all for same coverage.

Of course, I took the £10 saving!
