Hi there,
Me and boyfriend plan on moving in together in May/June. I am a full time student but it's only eight hours a week, so I shall work part time. He is in full time work as a jeweller. We're going to look at a flat this weekend and the rent is £650 a month, his wage will cover this. Do I need to have my name put on the 'deeds'? It's just I'd need a guarantor, and only my mum is working atm as my dad has been made redundant. I have no references as I'm only nineteen I have nothing they are asking for. Is it illegal for me to contribute to the rent and live there but not have the name in my place? I don't plan on doing anything illegal in case anyone shouts at me, I want to make sure everything I do is legal! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You either need to be party to the AST or you need to be recorded as a permitted occupant somewhere - it is better for you as you can then apply for a reference at the end of the tenancy. If you are able to find six months rent upfront you may not need a guarantor, you also might find suitable accommodation through your university. If you are living with your boyfriend you will need to declare this to the student loans company.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

My university is rubbish, we've tried to look there. Oh I never knew about telling the student loans, would they be lowered? If so I'd probably have to scrap this idea all together!0

I had to tell them, because I lived with my boyfriend the last year of uni... but I have a feeling that it doesnt matter too much unless youve been living together a certain number of years. They still assessed my parents and didnt ask for any of his info.
It does say the rules about it on the application, if you are unsure just ring your local authority who deal with the loans/means testing and ask.0 -
Thanks very much

I live with my partner now in a rented flat, only his name is on the contract... never really give much thought about it... maybe should have my name added to the contract too? by the way, my landlord knows about me as we moved in together.0

Yeah I don't plan on keeping it a secret
I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem! 0 -
Make sure you get a name and job title from the person you speak to at the SLC as well as noting down the time and date, they are notoriously disorganised and could easily claim later you didn't ring/ write/ e-mail.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Ooh, don't worry I will! I've had so many problems with them before!0
