Hi
I've just filled in the calculator on the student finance website, and my lad will only be able to get £4000 in Maintenance loan because of our income.
There wasnt anywhere on it to say I had another child to support, do you know if they take this into account when filling in the proper application form
thanks Jo

I'm almost certain they do - if you have another child under 18 or in full time education, then there's a section under "parents details" that you fill in. There more dependents you have, the more restrcited finances you have, thus the more financial support you are likely to receive.0

I think there's something about other children in higher education; no idea about those who aren't in high education.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

there's something on the application about both.0

My son and I are just working through his application and we had an adviser at his college who used to be one of the assessors for the loans. The calculator is only a rough guide but she said that when you apply you will get to say if you have other children in education - that covers both other kids in uni or younger ones at school, and you should get an allowance for that. Obviously if you're at the higher end anyway it may not make much difference - I'm right on the border myself but figure every little counts0

They only take off around £1300 for each dependent child if not in higher education.0

It's around that figure, and then if the other child holds an award, any calculated contribution is split between each child.0
