Re-Tile Door Step
AfterDark
Hi after the winter some of door step tiles have cracked and fallen off. Sick of waiting for people who never turn up to come and quote me. I have the replacement tiles I need to fix it.
What sort of stuff will I need to get to stick them down ? I'm guessing the house hold tile adhesive i've got left over from my bathroom is not going to be tough enough for outside use ?

You should be able to get your hands on a small (5kg) bag of powdered tile adhesive to do the job from a tile shop or possibly one of the sheds. Just make sure it's frost resistant and says for external use on the bag. A ready mix tub won't be much good for outside. A 5kg bag is still quite large though, so you will have quite a bit left over.
External tiles are often porcelain too and very non-porous so check that the bag states that it is suitable for porcelain too.
For an outside tile the colour of the adhesive should be irrelevant so a grey adhesive should be fine.0 -
my external tiles are ceramic and are stuck with what appears to be mortar.Get some gorm.0

From the tile doorsteps I've seen, they kind of look to me like they are set in concrete, but probably to an expert what ormus says would be the truth of the matter!0

19th century houses with tiled steps didn't have any fancy adhesives. Just fixed the tiles on with mortar as ormus says. That's not to say that you can't use a modern adhesive. In fact you would be silly not to.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
