Nmae file from OCR result

I have many scanned image files (pdf's at the moment but could change
if needed) and would like to rename them based on a unique serial
number that appears in the same place at the top right hand corner of
each image.
The serial number is printed on the original document so presumably
there should be no trouble with software reading it reliably.

Does anyone know of any software that could do this?

I need to keep the image file as the original document is mostly
completed by hand.

depends if the serial number is stored in the pdf as text (easier) or an image(harder). dont know how techie you are but as the pdf format is freely published by adobe plenty of programmers have written api's to allow manipulation.

perl has loads of pdf modules available on cpan.org. There may even be
prewritten software to do it. try sourceforge.net or freshmeat.net.

try opening said pdf in a text editor and looking for the serial number.

if you can reliably find it using logic in all your pdfs then a script can be written to extract the number and rename the pdf.
