Hey all, at the minute I live a few miles outside Hull in a small town called Brough and am using the dreaded crapclowns that are Kingston Communication, however according to BTs website I can switch over to them, has anyone is this area of the country done this and do you know if it affects your ability to get broadband from any BT based boradband supplier, as I also have SKY and would prefer to get their phone and BB package deal then the extortionate deal I have with KC.
Thanks
Thanks

I'm sure you will find that Sky will give you a phone line now at a BT exchangeEx forum ambassador

If you have a BT line you can use any broadband supplier you like. The LLU options will depend on what is available on your exchange. Brough is not listed as an exchange name in your area, so do an exchange search on:
www.samknows.com
Bear in mind that if you use any other Sky service than Sky Connect, then your line will be LLU'd to Sky and you would then have to take your line rental back to BT before changing broadband providers.
Sky broadband also ties you to remaining a Sky subscriber for the duration.
PS: Because of the unique position of KC in the market, you may find that you have to take your line rental back to BT first anyway in order to switch. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Woah quick replies, thanks guys, problem is chaps is that I am not sure if you know or not but Kingston Communication have an utter monopoly in this area so i do not even know if I can even get a BT line or not atm, hence why I was asking if anyone here from this area had done it sucessfully. It says on the BT website I can, but that is a bit of a catch-all thing I think. If I give my postcode here will that help the replies?0

Oh, just checked on that site and according to that me local exchange is North Cave, which is about 7 miles away, does that sound right? I can't post a link as I am a new user, bah.

North Cave is a Market 1 exchange with no LLU providers. So the only Sky service you could get is Sky Connect (non-LLU) at £17.
7 miles is a long way to get any kind of broadband from-are you sure that is your local exchange?
Use the exchange mapping link on samknows to get some more specific info to your actual postcode.
Assuming you can get broadband at all via BT Wholesale, your best deal is probably something like Plusnet Value at £11.99 (on a Market 1 exchange) , but it's a capped 10GB service.
EDIT: I thought you had already confirmed that you can switch to BT in your original post? Why don't you establish that with BT first, as otherwise this thread is somewhat pointless.
I didn't realise that was any degree of overlap between KC and BT, I thought that you would either be on a KC or a BT exchange and that is that?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
If your residence is on the Brough on Humber 01482 KC exchange you can normally only get service from KC.
If your on the North Cave. Brough 01430 BT exchange you can get service from BT and any other BT compatible phone supplier.0 -
Gosh, I didn't know that parts of Hull were still covered by that private supplier. I thought BT had managed to get a toehold everywhere now.
Cheers, HG0
