Potatoes

I want to plant some potatoes this year.

Can anyone please tell me if there is anything wrong with me getting some Potatoes from Tesco and letting them chit as I very often have this happen when I have over bought?

If ok what varitity should I get?

    You can do this, and if you are growing in compost that you replace each year, then its relatively safe. However if you are growing in the ground then it is advisable to at least be aware of the risk you are taking of introducing disease into your plot that will be very hard if not impossible to eradicate (at least in the short term). Proper seed potatoes are grown under special controls to avoid them containing any disease - shop potatoes obviously have to be edible but are grown on a much larger scale and disease and pests do get into them. Given that poundland are doing small packs of seed potatoes for £1 and Wilkos are doing bigger ones for £2.50 its a question of whether the risk is worth saving that sort of money.
