WhatCar? Target price: what have you managed for a Polo, Golf or Civic?

As you may have guessed, I'm looking at a polo, golf and civic, all new. Trading in my 07 Polo, and getting a gist on haggling techniques, offers to go in with etc; if you've bought one of these cars recently; how did you do?

I'm trying to establish if I can get the target price matched on a Polo 1.4SE, 1.4 Golf S or Civic 1.4 SE at a dealers is that the best I will do or worth pushing further....

Dont buy a Golf 1.4s, the engine is too underpowered for a heavy car like the Golf.

Are you buying new or used?

When I bought my Honda civic I got them to match the what car price and I think before I signed on the dotted got a bit more for my car. It ended up cheaper to buy new than take there demonstrator. Mine was a factory order as well so it hadn't been sitting in a field for 6 months.
Don't forget that if the dealer doesn't match what cars price, they will put you in touch with a dealer who will.

A dealer sending you to another dealer? Hmmm............naw!
  • Hintza I think what emmell means is that WhatCar? will put you in touch with a dealer that will match the target price.

Do they still sell the ordinary 1.4 and 1.6 new? I think they've stopped them and they are onto the 1.4TSI- it certainly is not underpowered- 122bhp.

Indeed they've stuck a 1.2TSI in the Octavia recently- apparently it is fine- 100bhp - more than some diesels.
