Creditors asking for certificate of bankruptcy to update credit files

I've been asked by a creditor to provide a certificate of discharge before they'll update my credit files. Is there any way round this as I'm keen to avoid the £60 I understand it costs?

Many thanks

  • Can i ask are you in receipt of benefits? As I understand if that is the case the fee may be waived, but this would need to be checked.

Im sure someone with more expericence will be along to clarify this.

No, I'm not but thanks anyway. Hopefully, someone else will have an answer.

    Hi,
You could always ask them to check the London Gazette website. They would probably say they haven't time but it is the easiest way to check BR.
I'm not aware of any other way - sorry:)

Does the London Gazette do discharges? I can find my bankruptcy but no mention of my discharge.

I didn't realise this. Can someone confirm if you are on benefits that you don't have to pay the £60. Does anyone have a link to something on the IS site to confirm this?

you could always contact your receivers office and ask them to confirm in writing your discharge date, this would be done on an official letterhead and the majority of creditors would accept it as official proof.

    Won't this tell them.

    http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/eiir/

    Select By Name,
    Choose All Office,
Enter your surname and it should show if your discharged.

If you are BR it will show
Status Currently Bankrupt : Automatic Discharge will be 03 July 2010 See FootNote
if BR is over but still on IPA/IPO
    Status Current

I think that site only holds your details for three months after your discharge and I'm past that now but, yes, I will ask the official receiver to provide some kind of confirmation. That's a good idea, thanks.

A friend was discharged on 2nd March and it is showing the discharge on the Insolvency Service site.

But that was only 15 days ago assuming you mean 2010. I've been discharged for a number of months and am no longer showing on that site.
