i have just got hold of some oak flooring (NOT engineered), and was wondering what is the best way of laying it?? Different builders have given me different ideas, and confused me in the process)
i'v come across so far with:
- Floating (tongues and grooves glued together, with a membrain underneath the flooring)
- Stapling or Nailling (secret nailled to the floorboards)
- Glued to the floorboards.
the oak flooring would be going on floorboards.
THanks

If you have a reclaimed oak floor (proper floorboards) then IMO the best way is to remove your existing floor and fix the oak boards to the joists. Sand smooth and apply a suitable finish if required.
If you must fix to existing floorboards fix the oak boards at 90 deg to them. Allow an expansion gap across the width or remove existing skirting then refix on top of it. Expansion gap will be hidden by the skirting.0 -
the floorboards are in good condition and look flat, and no i dont wanna put them straight onto joists, that seems well scary....0
