Advice Needed for Crisis Loan

  • Who is eligible?
You can apply for a Crisis Loan if all the following apply:
    you're aged 16 or over
you don't have enough money to meet your (or your family's) immediate short term needs in an emergency or as the result of a disaster
without the loan there will be serious damage or risk to your (or your family's) health or safety

do any of these apply to you, if not I don't think you'd even be entitled to a crisis loan.

Crisis loans for living expenses are paid where there are no means or resources to meet the basic costs of living (normally considered to be food, toiletries and power if there this requires regular funding to cover supply - i.e card meter) - being without food and power is considered a serious risk to health or safety.

This is usually where the applicant is between sources of income (new claim to benefit or just begun work and is known as an aligment) or some other event has occurred leaving them without funds to meet basic living costs until their next income is received.

It has to be the only means to prevent this risk - social fund is the last safety net of the welfare state - if anyone else can help or any other form or credit can be obtained a crisis loan will be refused.

Yep. Many thanks. Both our gas and electric is on PrePay so is required to be paid up front.

Its good to see some good advice on here and that people give such help.

I am looking forward to get back into work.

I could cynically say she could walk but given she is going to have to sign no more than 2 times in the period before you are paid and that's going to be no more than a tenner or so it doesn't make huge difference in the consideration.

From what you've said I think you should be able to last 3 weeks comfortably (well not comfortably but doable) at that point if your employer has refused any advance at all then given the circumstances you've described I'd apply and I'd be surprised if you were turned down.

The DM will ask you to explain the situation and account for your exepnditure of your last payment - if they are satisified that you really do have nothing and no one else is able to help then they will pay you a loan up to your first expected paydate.

I make that round about a 7 day period from 15th-22nd April inclusive.

Max award for this period for a couple would be just over £75 - which is in line with your £60 p/w living costs so you should be fine. :)
