Purchasing Old Red Brick House. Advice

Hi,

I maybe about to buy a 1930's house but have noticed the same thing on all houses of this age in and around my area. Here is a link to a similar property http://www.propertypal.com/5-holland-crescent-east-belfast-belfast/94916

Notice the dark red bricks spanning from the base up to about 3 foot.

Does anyone know why this is? Is there damp? Is it something I should be worried about.

Many thanks in advance.

its just a bit of dampness, most likely caused by the ground level being too high.
or heavy rain splashing back up the wall.
some dry weather will sort that out. not much chance in ireland eh?
    Get some gorm.
  • So true. It will be checked by a surveyor, but if I can spot these things myself it will save me some time and money. Thanks.
  • Lol Its not dampness, you will find that those are 'blue bricks' an early damp course method - I have them on my house which is almost identical to yours - very solid.
