The point is that this is an interesting thread with sensible info being raised and as a new user I was making the point that I had learned something I had not previously thought of. Satisfied?
I have assumed that you guys just have a weird sense of humour. Not even a 'hello' or 'welcome', now that would be nice.
    Chris.

Not sure of the point of Chris's post.... Asbestos is perfect safe unless it is damaged, or moved without proper precautions. A rusty frame will not affect the asbestos. Honestly some people don't half over react when the word 'asbestos' is mentioned!

We sold our old house last year, concrete walls with a ... Wait for it... Asbestos roof! The buyer and surveyor were very sensible and realise it is not an issue....

    Get a grip!

The point is that there is a whole profitable "elf n safety" industry out there with a vested interest in the current position,
If your house has asbestos tiles; it is covered with toxic waste.
When the time comes to re-roof it; expect a lot of teeth sucking and a big bill for disposal and burial of the toxic waste by a guy dressed for an appearance at a fancy dress party as a space walker. He might even go right over the top and bring his own specialised porta loo, changing room.

Alternatively you might want to climb up there yourself with a hose to settle the dust - there are still a few local authorities whose waste transfer station has a closed skip for modest quantities of old asbestos cement.
What ever you do don't drive down my lane and dump asbestos in neatly packaged special poly sacks - I'm sick of it.

Cheer up, with a bit of luck it is some other poor s*d's problem now.

    John
