BMW 118d or Audi A3 2.0TDi?

I would take the BMW 118d, preferably in M Sport trim, either a 3 door or a coupe. It has awesome economy and cheap to run - stand fast the depreciation.0

Updated to benefit future users….
Having owned two BMW 1 series and now a 2004 Audi 2.0 TDI sport I would stay with the Audi hands down. The BMW is a better drive being rear wheel but that’s as far as it goes.
My Audi has the Bose, full leather etc and an modern luxury interior and no blonde rep factor
In the winter I have passed so many rear wheel drive BMW’s going nowhere and the Audi pulls like a tractor in 2nd waving good buy to its German cousin.
The Audi is a great car and doesn’t carry the “Jockey at the wheel” of the BM driver…I’ve been there an done it and very glad to be out of the club.0 -

Also finally not many people like BMW drivers on the road so dont expect anyone to let you out at junctions
Was it not Jeremy Clarkson who said on his Top Gear programme that Audi drivers are cocks.;););)0 -

Keep up, according to Jeremy Clarkson the "Jockey at the wheel" or whatever you want to call "crown" passed to Audi owners sometime in 2009 I think
If anyone is qualified to be the judge of such ridiculous stereo typical things it has to be J.C.
As is being said on so many car forums right now the RWD / FWD and even 4WD issue in the snow is not as relevant as the question of what tyres your using in the current conditions. A RWD anything fitted with winter tyres will do better on snow and ice than a 4WD anything still fitted with it's summer tyres.
A pair of autosocks on the rear wheels of my car saw it climb icy hills and more importantly stop on the way down icy hills with these things fitted far more safely than the Volvo XC90 / Honda CRV etc. around at the time.
Even between different brands of summer tyre I find greatly differing performance. Continental Premium Contact tyres in the snow a couple of years back had me wondering what all the RWD car in the snow fuss was about it was so sure footed. Michelin Pilot Primacy HP tyres on now and it's utterly useless, then again so is my wifes FWD car fitted with the same tyre

Having owned both an A3 and 1 Series, I personally preferred the 1 Series.0
