Protecting new car interior

Hi all

I am going to pick up my new car this afternoon :j

The steering wheel is cream, as is the top of the seats

The dealer offered me something... scotchguard??... which would protect this but it was £300.

I have been told there are similar products available that you can spray on yourself.

Can anyone recommend a specific brand?

Thanks

    avoid the dealer option

you can buy the same product on ebay for a few £'s.
  • Dealer paint/interior protection deals are an expensive joke.

If you have interiors in these colours you just have to be careful and clean them every now and again with good quality car interior cleaners, and wipe any nasty marks off before they get ingrained.

My 14 year old MB has mushroom leather interior, it comes up like new with its annual spring clean.

Is the car a Fiat 500 by the way, the white steering wheel and interior treatment is quite refreshing on those.

Some pretty good seat covers out there these days for less than £40.

What does scotchguard actually do, or supposed to do?

It puts a protective transparent coating on upholstery, it arguably stops anything from staining.

    Yes, it's a Fiat 500.

I've thought about seat covers, but it seems a shame to cover the originals.

I believe you can buy the scotchguard stuff and similar fabric protector aerosol sprays and apply it yourself. All it is is like the stuff they stick on Marks and Spencers silk ties. The idea is if you spill stuff on it, with surface tension the liquid will not soak into the fabric and stain it, and you can just carefully wipe off the spill.

Definitely wouldn't pay a dealer to scotchguard it though, dealers only sell it because they see ££££
