Where can I get free SATS Papers?

My son (year 2) will be doing his SATS in May.

I was wondering if there are any websites where you can download examples of SATS Tests or previous years SATS Papers?

I spoke to his Teacher at Parents evening last night and she said you could buy books from WHSmith with SATS Tests in, I will have a look at these when I go to town, but just wondered if there was anything free on the net? I have had a quick search, but couldn't find anything for his year for free.

if you google keystage 1 sats you get quite alot, ask the teacher what type of things they will be doing in the sats it wont be anything that he hasnt already covered at school

When my eldest was in yr2, his school refused to mention SATS in front of the children and the parents were advised not to coach the children.

The children did their SATS by going off into special groups with a teacher. It was made into a fun activity.

Why pressure a 6/7 year old for no reason? I don't understand what you are trying to achieve by going through test papers. The school should be preparing them for the tests.

A bit of reading, writing and some mental arithmetic done as part of daily activities is all that's needed at that age. Get them to help you write a shopping list, do the shopping and get them to do some addition and multiplication on the way around.

year 2 SATS serve no purpose at all for the children, so as long as your son is doing as well as expected in his classroom work at school, he'll be fine when doing his SATS. No need for extra coaching outside of school.

SATS are about seeing how the school's doing, not individuals. Why are you trying to coach your son? He's only little! He'll have plenty of time to worry about exams when he's older.

I teach year 2. We use sats just to help us reach a judgement about the level a child is working at. The test just gives an extra bit of evidence to use. I'd advise against coaching for a test as it puts kids under unnecessary pressure. In addition, schools often use past papers as ongoing assessment throughout the year and it's best if kids haven't already seen the papers iyswim.

The best way to prepare children for end of key stage assessment, in my opinion and in my experience, is to keep practising reading, mental maths, tables etc.

I have a 3 sons all have been through the SATS system and the middle one is now taking his A levels and believe me they will be tested to within an inch of there lives the older they get and you will have papers coming out your ears.

Try not to worry about these ones. Try just doing normal things with him like counting pennies or looking at prices in the supermarket make it as natural as possible.

The more you worry about such things the more he will.

Relax and enjoy your time together, believe me it goes so quick and before you know it they will be up and away.

Just seen this is an old thread, still stands though :)

Why on earth would you want to put pressure on a 6yo to perform in SATS that are of no benefit for the child and for which the sole purpose is to ascertain how well the school is doing?

They've got years of important exams in later years, FGS let him be a child while he still can be.
