I am buying a used car from Bristol street motors (ford dealer) in birmingham although it is a toyota verso. It has 8 months manufacturer warranty left but the dealer offered me an extended 3 years cover (including RAC breakdown cover) to start after the manuf. cover ends for £600. The price sounds to me very reasonable as it includes the top RAC cover also but has any one had any experience with this cover from bristol street motors? will they insist on me servicing the car with them?..i will appreciate all the advice

Are Bristol Street Motors a Toyota dealer ?? The Toyota extended warranty is very good and I would be happy to pay £600 for 3 more years but if its an after market one run by an insurance company I would say keep your money as there will be a clause excluding most things that are likely to go wrong. I am guessing its an after market one as £600 inc RAC cover seems cheap for 3 years.
You can also take out the Toyota one on the last day of cover so not sure why they are asking you to buy it 8 months in advance ?? If you have any items like bubbling alloys they are covered by Toyota so get them changed before the 8 months is up (provided its bubbling and not kerbing LOL)

£200 a year for a Verso sounds like the right sort of money to pay, possibly a little low.
I agree, check into who is underwriting that warranty and make sure it is either the Toyota insured warranty (most likely a 3rd party underwriter and not Toyota themselves) or a company that is very clear on cover, exclusions, and wear and tear policy.

You say top RAC cover, do you have that in writing as many of these policies are limited to the distance away from home and will only recover the car to a main dealer

thanks all for your comments. bristol street motors are ford dealers but i found this toyota on their forecourt (may be part exchanged for ford). the cover is not with toyota but i think it is a third party. the RAC cover is for roadside, home start and recovery

I took out a warranty policy with BSM which is run by TWG Services Ltd, they have 2 plans, I was also told it covered everything, but reading the paperwork it was not the plan I thought I was on. They will not accept service stamps, they want service invoices as well. They also charge for any diagnostic work.
  • Waste of money. What they're saying is "our cars are pretty unreliable and we think you may spend more than £600 over the next 3 years, making sure they keep running." In truth, its a scheme designed to pray on your fears, while earning them money.

I'd avoid them as a rule unless they're manufacturer backed.

My previous car came with a Skoda Approved warranty even though it was a Vauxhall, which was fantastic. Made two reasonably high value claims.
