My hubby had a course of 30 sessions of the light therapy at the skin clinic but it didnt take it all away and as soon as it had finished it just had a big flare up and whilst going through the course of treatment he was getting psoriaris elsewhere in places he hadn't had it before.

Well he saw the consultant today who took his history and problems now and said he has some indicators that he has arthritis but he had to have and examination then have an injection in his bum cheek (the nurse said it was a steriod combine with anti inflamatory) he also had some blood taken and then was sent to have some xrays of his feet, hands and back. He was prescribed some Diclofenac 50mg which he has to take 3 times a day and see the consultant in 6 weeks time. Hopefully we'll get some confirmation either way then.

Not sure how other people's first consultation go and is this usual for these investigations?

His appointment was exactally the same as my first rhummy consultation but my injection was in my hip and I had hand scans done.

Second appointment, the tests confirmed RA and a treatment plan was drawn up and drug therapy commenced.

Mine too, have you considered surgery to release and repair the tendons?

Do you have huge lumps along the tendon paths caused by the damaged tendons?

Thats next for me because Im a full time wheelchair user with knackard hands.
  • no i have a nodule on the palm of my one hand and have had lots of physio/splints which to be fair have slightly stopped the bending a bit no ones mentioned any ops i was meant to be given a injection into my one finger the other week but came away with more tablets and as i knew it was going to be painful i didnt mention it (oops) im waiting to go back to the rheumy and to see the OT in a few weeks to see how the injections in my fingers have worked lol

No ammount of pills or injections can help my tendons and surgery is the only option or end up with (even more) useless fingers, thats what my rhummy told me last week, I have had steroids injected into my lumps and Im on drug treatment for my RA but nothing is working.

physios and OTs cant do anything either.

Thanks for answering my questions, it is a rare facet of RA to have tendon involement.
  • ah well im pretty newish to most of this i have lumps either side of the nodule and they think it may lead to "trigger" finger but so far it hasnt.

Another one here with PA and palmur planter psoriasis.I am on biologic injections(Embrel) with methotrexate and sulfasalazine also have it in my hands wrists neck shoulders knees ankles, feet etc etc.
I do know how he feels as I sometimes get so exhausted through lack of sleep, pain ,stiffness that I cry out of frustration and loss for my old life where I can just get up and go to the loo without it turning into a major exercise etc.

I also have heart damage and arthritis in my eyes which is unbelievably painful oh and trigiminimal neuralgia and tj jaw arthritis, all are immune deficiency problems so just gotta take every morning as it arrives and see what it holds for me.
I just gotta keep reminding myself that a lot of people(our service men for instance) would give anything for painful limbs/bones etc.
    Soft hugs to everyone
