Look at the various boards for all the idea's. What I did was hunt around & pick out the bits that could work for us....batch cooking, not buying coffee each day from Starbucks at work, looking for deals in the supermarket, not wasting food, selling things you don't need, not buying things you don't need, buying presents in the sale etc etc....

As I said look at all the boards on here & work out what would work for your family.

Plan your meals and only buy what you need. You may find that some cheaper brands are just as good as named brands.

My first step was to budget :)

I got all my accounts for three months (how long I'd been in the house) and worked out all the averages.

I then lowered the ones I could - the os board was great help in ideas on how to lower my grocery bill.
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

Draw out a certain amount of money each week adn that's all you can live on. Once it's gone, it's gone for that week.

ohhh.. well, its all about knowledge and discipline

Main points for consideration when money saving....

Do you have any debts ? if so pop over to the debt free board. and use the snowball calc to see if you are paying your debts off in the most cost efficient way. change to 0% cards if you are paying interest

Use comaparison sites for gas., elec, phone (landline and mobile) insurance etc

Then if you need to change register with quidco and change via them - you get cash back. I just earned £200 for changing gas and elec, pet insurnace and home insurance. I save £600 a year too!

Shopping try going down a brand for things you dont notice. for example i will only buy premium brand beans - but thats cause i am fussy yet i off set these by buying smart price tinned toms as you really cant tell them apart from mainstream brands.

Batch cook as well, if you like for example, chilli instead of cooking 1 meals worth cook 5 meals worth and freeze them. Not only is this cheaper but if you have had a busy da and dont feel like cooking you have stuff already done, so you resist takeaways lol. Try the OS board for other ideas re food shopping cutting costs

Look at the heating and lighting - only use elec when you need it - dont let kids leave pc's and tv's on when not in use etc

Use cash instead of debit cards as you can control what you are spending better

there are many more, but i think the ones above will save you greatest money and are easy to stick to

Oh, and good luck in your new home!!!

sorry for typos, in a rush
