How do you use a glass wasp catcher?

Hi,
Being a question for the garden, I thought I would post this here, hope you don't mind.
I have for years been meaning to get one of those glass wasp catchers. I gather due to the way bees fly they can't get caught up in these catchers.
So when I was in a garden centre I saw some being sold for £4 so grabbed one as I thought it was a good buy.
I can't remember how you use them when the wasps start to become a pest.
Do you leave the bung in the top and leave them to fly up in the hole from underneath, and do I need to put anything in the base of the catcher as an encouragement for them?
Many thanks

I think you put jam or something sweet in the base and leave the bung in the top. The wasps fly up through the hole and can't fly down to get out again.
You take out the bung to clean the whole thing out and start again.0 -
Put some water mixed with anything sweet (we use orange squash) in it , hang it up somewhere (leave the bung in) and just clean it out every so often ....work quite well.0

Wasps are a gardeners friend. They collect thousands of caterpillars and midges to feed to their young.0

You can make a wasp catcher from an old jam jar, dont wash the jam out, half fill with water, put a string round the neck and hang from a tree. This should catch them and you will need to empty it. They also seem to be attracted to lager tins ... I suspect if you left a bit in the bottom you would catch a few.0
