Insurance company cutting my no claims??
I've just had my renewal notice through for my car insurance & whereas my last company were giving me 9+ years, this company is only giving me 5+ & I have not claimed. How can they do that? So do I have to say 5+ years now when shopping around? Seems I'm worse off for not doing anything wrong

Most NC bonuses max-out at 6 years, i.e 9 years NC doesn't give you any more discount than 6 years NC. Is the quote for 5+ years NC significantly more expensive than the quote for 9+ years NC?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

You may find that some insurance companies can accept no claims of 9+ years, however as above it is very common for most companies to ignore this and only show a maximum of 5 years, however they will have the true amount on their records. Telephone your company and ask them to provide something in writing showing the true value of your NCB, most will do this.0

I tried the difference on confused.com & it was about £20, so not much but I just don't like the principle of it. Usually companies ask me to forward my proof of no claims & that is usually what I get on renewal therefore I would be slightly worse off.0

I've got exactly the same problem, I was insured with Churchill but I've spoken to them and they say they only supply a ncd saying 6 years ncd.
Thing is I've told Admiral that I have 11 years (well, I do have 11 years) and they now want me to send proof on, it's worth £35 saving (and I'm utterly skint) on the policy overall (which has cost me £265) so what should I do? I've kept copies of older ncd proofs in case this happens but should I try and battle it out with Churchill first or tell Admiral now?
Any advice would be gladly taken!0 -
I should have over 20 by rights!!!0

Ok, just spoke with Admiral on the phone and they said as my renewal notice says "5 years (maximum) no claims bonus" that they can take it that Churchill only do a 5 year max but as it also says "maximum" that they will believe me on the 11 years no claims and confirmed it all on the phone but they would speak to Churchill in the event of a claim but this doesn't bother me as I have all my insurance details going back more than 5 years anyway. :j0

good one, so no great 'no claims' conspiracy going on then

Some insurance companies allow up to 9-10 years - LV being one. 5 years gives 70% NCD, extra years only give 1%. Max you can get is 75%.
BUT - if you have an accident only the years up to 5 count and following a claim you lose three years off the five, not the 9/10 years.0 -
I've built up 11 yrs bouns - with numerous insurance companies - never had a NCB limit problem0

When I moved from Tesco to LV, I had 10 years NCB but the Tesco renewal said 5 years max, so I eventually got them to send a letter outlining that I did indeed have 10 years, although it did take 3 attempts and in the end LV said they only need to see the proof of NCB if I ever make a claim. Some insurance companies allow up to 9-10 years - LV being one. 5 years gives 70% NCD, extra years only give 1%.
