Doesn't sound much, does it?
I now understand why 1 swallow appears to make a summer, if these are the magnitude of figures they're discussing nationally.

Theres already an argument about this.
However, this article words it different, suggesting that only 258 people (or house hunters) registered....across the UK.
This can't be right?
It says "only 258 hour hunters registered with agents". However, when talking about the properties, it specifically states per agent.0 -
I so miss the rolleyes smiley.......“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Carols having a reading comprehension problem again.....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

I think you may be. Carol has only posted the link. I have asked a question, in which you haven't answered, but have had a pop at Carol based on my question, and even the pop isn't correct.0 -
It must be per agent surely? If you take an area with say 8 estate agents then I would guess most of the 250 register with all of them (if they are serious about looking for a property). I would, then you get more unsuitable details every day, but you might get lucky. Each agent has 50 or so properties so that's 8 x 50 = 400, with 250 'new' buyers. Wonder how many remain registered...zzz.. whoops.. I've fallen asleep.0

Do explain - you don't appear able to click on the link, let alone comment meaningfully on the contents.
I only quoted the Telegraph, verbatim.
If you disagree, it's the Telegraph you need to contact to comment on its reading comprehension - and I'd like to be a fly on the wall during that conversation :rotfl: - not me.0 -
The Telegraph article says it's taken the figures from the NAEA, so go here
http://www.naea.co.uk/news/news_details.aspx?id=528
for a slight grammatical modification to what The Telegraph said;
"Only 258 house hunters registered with an agent compared to 291 in January, the lowest number recorded over the last 12-months. "
It's an average per agent, like the rest of the figures in the article.0 -

I thought I had seen every stat possible to do with the housing market but then another one pops up. Can't wait for the agent nose picking (while waiting for a punter) stats to be released.
LOL was just thinking this myself (not the nose picking, the stat!).
It's one of those stats where it doesn't really mean much! A house usually goes up with one estate agent. However, buyers can register with as many as they like. Either 1, or all of he agents in the town, or indeed, if looking in 2 or 3 towns, all of the agents in 2 or 3 towns, meaning one house hunter could be registered just once, or multiple times, sometimes 10's of times I'd guess with varying agents.
So it tells us, well, not much at all.
Plus, I haven't got a clue what the becnhmark is. Not sure in all honesty whether any of us do. Obviously Hamish will know.
Must admit to looking in the estate agents window myself more though. Might even go register myself. It's not the houses that are catching my eye either.0 -

Well, assuming 6-day per week office opening, hence 24 working days in the month, that's an average of (258/24) between 10 and 11 folks walking into the average high street agent every day, and saying "I'm interested in X, Y and Z. Please let me know when any come up for sale".
More than one per hour, for an average working day, and this is perceived as 'low' .....0
