Used Car Valuations
Mum has found two cars she likes, both the same except for mileage however we would like to get a guide of what the price should be so that we can work out what is a fair price. We were recommended Glass's but the £3.50 seems to be per car or have i got that wrong?
The free one on the Vauxhall is only for trade ins and doesn't seem to cover finding the valuation of a vehicle you are looking at...
Don't really want to spend £7 for a valuation, unless i have got it wrong and it's like parkers and for 24 hrs...

I'm not sure what having glasses guide figures will prove?
I would be checking within 50 miles of where you live on autotrader to see what other dealers are looking for the same car. Then i'd check nationally too. You're likely to be able to get £500-£750 off any 'forecourt' price, so knock that off too.
If theres too much of a difference, then tell your local dealer you're prepared to travel to get the better deal - unless he can match it.0 -

Mum's quite limited in that being retired she doesn't want to travel far for a car. There is 2 at a car supermarket (one a simliar price and one £900 cheaper can't work out what the difference is) but it's 50 miles away and she doesn't want to travel that far for a car for various reasons including if something went wrong with the car and she would be faced with a further 50 mile drive plus she gets a guarantee for 2 years if she goes with a dealer. We have managed to knock £200 off one of the cars but as we're part exchanging it's more the price of that we are haggling...Just wanted to get an idea really...0 -

Tried them but they seem to have very low prices for the car which i can't find anywhere so i think they may be a little incorrect...

You dont actually *have* to travel the distance - just tell the nearest dealer that you're going to, and ask him what he will do RE: the price difference.
Knowing he has actual live competition some miles down the road is more likely to motivate him into giving you a better deal than you saying your car is too dear because it says so on the internet.
Let him know you are going to buy, and its up to him where you buy.0 -
glass is the trade in value. don't pay too far above the specified valuation unless it's a particularly good example otherwise you'll lose loads of money when you come to sell it

You can use this http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vaux/pages/financeAndServices/valueYourCar/index.jsp to get the glass's guide valuation but tbh these are trade valuations so will not be an indication of what you should be paying as a consumer.0

Have you tried searching for the same car on AutoTrader? I would search for the exact same model car and set the mileage/doors/engine/age options to the same as the cars you're looking at buying. That should give you an idea of how much the cars are worth.0

They won't budge much further Pgilc, car supermarkets do tend to be much cheaper anyway...aqueoushumour01 wrote: »glass is the trade in value. don't pay too far above the specified valuation unless it's a particularly good example otherwise you'll lose loads of money when you come to sell it
