I've recently moved into a new house and am looking to hang a 16kg mirror on a plasterboard wall in my bathroom..
Its a bevelled mirror so dont really want any unsightly fixings that can be seen, what would be best to use?
If anyone who knows about this kind of stuff could provide links i would be most grateful as i am a completely clueless girly girl when it comes to DIY lol
Thanks in advance

That's a heavy mirror you've got there!
Couple of points. What fixings are available on the mirror itself? Has it holes which you can put screws through, or will it need something along the bottom to rest it on? Have you already got brackets which fit or clip on the edge of the mirror?
Next, can you locate the wooden battens which are the uprights onto which the plasterboard is fixed? Sometimes you can see the nailheads of the nails holding the plaster board in place, othertimes you need to tap along the walls listening carefully for the note to change - when it soulds low and hollow you are between battens, when it soulds high pitched and hard you have located a batten.
Give somemore details and I'll try to talk you through it. But whatever, have a friend or two with you when you do try to hang it, help holding it up and steady it if need be.0 -

sorry its taken me a while to respond.. the mirror has fixings on the back by way of a wire! No chance on this earth would i hang it on that.. as i said in my post before i dont want any clips that overlap onto the front of the mirror as it will take away from the bevelled look...
just looking for something super sturdy that i could put about 4 (one in each corner behind the mirror so it just hangs on there flush with no obvious sign of how its been hung up.
Ladybird20, im the same mine has been sat in the box for months now but im determined to get it up lolI LOVE MSE! :money:0 -
Well i have a mirror , its about 48 wide and 36 deep .
Don't know its weight .
Its triple bevelled but does use the small clip fittings that were supplied when I bought the mirror, so they are 'just' visible from the front.
But because of the size of the mirror, the clips are not really a problem.
If the wire was the standard fitting supplied when new , would have thought it should hold the weight.
Otherwise you want a concealed fitting capable of supporting 16 kg
I would seek out a 'mirror ' shop and ask .0 -
2mm wire rope has a breaking strain of over 200kgs
6mm polyrope is over 70kg.0 -
As has been said find the stud the p/board is nailed to and insert a woodscrew. Use the wire to hang it from. If you don't want to use a stud (wrong position) then use one of these or similar

I would use expanding plaster board bolts, I have used them to hang boilers onto plasterboard walls, never had one drop off yet.0

I've had spring toggles fall apart on me, I prefer this type for plasterboard
