Outside brick wall peeling

Hi

We are about to sell our property and I want to do up the outside wall
Our last neighbours painted it white but now its got loads of green marks and moss on it and the paint is peeling everywhere
As we are moving I dont want to spend lots of money so dont want advice on sandblasting etc (we would do that if we were staying)
I have started with a wire brush at getting rid of a lot of the peeling, what would the next step be? Just paint over it? Surely if I do that you will see the red brick underneath where its peeled?

I would give the bare areas 2 coats of paint, then the whole wall 2 complete coats. Then I would stand back and decide it needs another!

jet wash it all first. thatll get rid of any loose stuff.
    then paint as stated above.
    Get some gorm.
  • last night at 5pm I decided to start on it - have got a wire brush and a screwdriver wit a flat end and started peeling away - its coming off in strips, reckon I am just going to do the whole wall, I am a stay at home mum and the baby seemed quite content playing in her pram whilst i chipped away, have time to do it all properly
  • This thread's answered my problem too.
I came on here to post about the same thing happening in our walled yard.
The frost has played havoc with the paintwork and some of the bricks have just crumbled.
Guess we're going to have to strip down and get back to basics too.
  • Once you get going its rather fun (lol yes I am weird) and stress relieving! I have done a quarter of the wall already (wall length around 20 foot) - have made sure I focus on one spot and get bigger ad bigger rather than my usual attack it from all angles!! Off to BnQ in a bit to see about getting a wire brush and whether they reccomend doing an undercoat and then top cost, as I said I dont really want to spend much moey on doing it BUT I want to do it right so would rather strip it all back and re do than try to do patchwork (am sure the downstairs freeholders wont be too impressed either) Not they have paid anything for the upkeep of the front of the house which is shared (I hae done all the flowerbeds)
