Paying with my credit card....help!

Hello. I have always steered away from ever using or even activating a credit card, but here's the story. I need to get a new laptop as mine is on its last legs, in fact i'd say its actually hopping drunk on one leg with a blind fold on.
Im looking to buy a new one at the cost of £1200, however i dont want to pauy for it outright. As the site does not offer a 'pay in installments' option, am i right in assuming i can use a credit card, and pay that off monthly?
I've just activated my Lloyds TSB credit card, the card actually arrived in october last year, however i have only activated it not two hours agol. I have been on the site to see the rates, and i do not understand. There is platinum and there is advanced...my card just says 'mastercard' and nothing else, and they would not tell me rates over the phone for my card.
Anyways, long question short, if i pay that £1200 pounds on my newly activated credit card, can i pay it off by paying off £200 pounds of my credit card over six months? And what is the lekely interest rate, if any? Sorry im a bit bone with this, but i really need advice before i go spending what i dont have! Thanks.
p.s might you have any suggestions??

You can probably guess at about a further £100 - £150 in interest on that amount over the period.0

Buy a cheaper laptop with cash after you have saved up for it.
If you don't understand credit then don't borrow!0 -
Apologies for the other people on here. There are so many judgemental c*nts on here, it's unbelievable. I rarely visit the site as I get sick of seeing so many people preaching.
If you pay on your credit card, you will pay interest each month on the outstanding balance - probably somewhere between 1-2%, but this will depend on the APR on your card. If you plan to pay off within 6 months, I would be surprised if you pay more than £100 in interest.
As for how much to spend - £1200 is a lot for a laptop, but if you can afford the payments, then why not? It's your cash, and the whole point of credit is to allow you to purchase something, and pay for it for some time after that. The interest is the premium you pay for not saving up. All sounds reasonable to me.0 -
have a look at medion.co.uk their laptops are refurbs but like new, and good spec and price. Warranty is excellent service0

Well thank you very much for the last time posts especially, they were particularly helpful, especially TFD, its much appreciated. As for PNPSUKNET, im going to check that site out now, thank you very much for that advice
The laptop itself is actually for gaming yes, so hence the high price tag on it. I could pay for this outright but would rather not part with such a vast amount in one go. Thanks very much for those of you that offered help here, greatly appreciated!0 -

Don't get a laptop for gaming. Been there, done that. The harddrive speeds are lousy and you end up getting lag from too much thrashing. You'll get much more power for your buck with a standard PC - and throw in a nice Samsung 50000:1 widescreen monitor like the one I'm sitting infront of
The best way to pay for it would have been a 0% purchase card, you could have paid for it over a period of time without incurring any interest or fees."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -

Probably can help since I have both cards:

Green-Advanced one(11.9 apr)
Silver-Platinum one (15.9apr)0
