Lasting Power Of Attorney

Hi to all !

My mum asked me to look into setting up a LPA.

I found info on the Directgov site and understand that there are two types:
  • Property & Affairs
  • Personal Welfare
We understand the forms to be filled, and that they require registration with the Office of Public Guardian to have a legal standing. The fees quoted are £120 per document + £25 per copy.
Is there a more cost effective way of drawing up these documents whilst ensuring they are legal?

Thanks
Phil

    Hi Phil,

This is the cheapest they can be done. Also there's a form that needs to be signed by an independant solicitor so you need to factor in their costs too.

Its not a quick, easy or cheap process anymore :(

But just image if you got a solicitor to fill the forms out for you......£400-£500 per LPA!
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

  • Damned expensive business, but money well spent I suppose if the worst came to the worst.
There is a section in the application forms entitled 'Declaration by your first or only certificate provider'
There is a choice of two options. Option 1 is to have a solicitor/GP sign to confirm the donor fully understands what they are signing or option 2 may be signed by somebody who has known the donor for over 2 years (cannot be a relative or attorney).
I hope that choosing option 2 eliminates the need of involving a solicitor!

    Phil
