You need to get specialist marine insurance to cover the shipping of your stuff, (in case the boat sinks I suppose!!) and also insurance for your stuff that will be in Cyprus and the stuff in storage - so unfortunately the premiums do go up. We use Pax insurance as they are specialist military insurers, and they do kit insurance too which covers stuff on detachments and during moves anyway. If I remember correctly the removals company can offer you insurance for your stuff in transit and storage if you want it, but I think you have to itemise all your stuff and estimate the value. We decided to go with pax for all of it and with their help we put a lump estimated value on the things in storage and the Cyprus stuff .

You could ring your normal insurance company maybe they can offer you similar cover.

    Hi
I was hoping someone may be able to answer some questions for me.

I think we are prob being posted to Episkopi Cyprus in summer, its my first O/S posting and Im sooo worried -about everything.

I have been told you get a cypriot bank acount and you still have your normal outgoings from back home. How does this work?

Also do you still get ur usual child benefit/tax credit payments as you are abroad?

How long does it normally take for your furniture to get there?

Is it quite straight forward to get Sky and broadband?

    Thanks in advance
    Hi there

Don't worry you will love it, spent 4 years here in the military and i now live just down the road as an Xpat.

you can open a bank account easily, no problems, once you get here your HR staff will ask how you want your wages distributed, you can X ammount of your wages put in your Uk acct and X ammount put into your Cypriot acct what ever suits you the best,

Not 100% sure how your tax credits work, i would assume it will be the same as UK, you can seek advice once you are here.

My furniture took about 6 weeks from leaving UK to arriving at my new house.

I have SKY but you need a 3mtr dish and its complicated, your not supposed to have it, you can get BFBS tv which is most of the UK channels, a pick of the best, you can get TV using your broadband once your here there are many options, most stick with BFBS its free and UK TV.
Broadband is easy to set up, costs are around 30 euro for a decent package, there are plenty of wireless pubs near you, The Woodstock in the village 3 miles from you has a WiFi connection and there is also some on Camp.

Don't worry, you should be looking forward to it, pack your swimming costumes you will need plenty of them.

Hi just to re-iterate as above.
Go to Boots or wherever you buy your toiletries if you have any products that are your faves buy them in bulk now and get them shipped. I have a whole cupboard of my fave shampoos, moisturisor etc. i also bought sun tan lotion as it was on BOGOFF at Boots and still is.

good luck Mammyflemming and Cath 000, i've been here 8 weeks and so far so good, especially as the weather is getting warm. Also everyone is very friendly. x
  • One tip I have is this, we didnt take any beds, we all had raf beds. But hubby and me had a single each, pushed together with the legs tied together (to avoid bed moving apart!) Lovely 6ft wide bed which when it gets very hot was lovely and cool to sleep in!

Go with the flo, you will love it!

We did the same with the beds, but bought a super king size mattress topper to put on the top of the beds - much more comfy! We use the double bed in the spare room for guests.

    Hi

If you are posted to Episkopi and are opening up a local bank account, the Hellenic Bank at Episkopi is closing at the end of June. There is another Bank on camp the Laiki Bank which you can open an account.
