Grooms Speech - Original Jokes

I got my wedding coming up and although my sppech is more about the thank yous i would still like to throw in some ORIGINAL jokes and not the usual ones we hear every time.

Was wondering could anyone help or point me in right direction?

google, google, google but try to keep it honest and close to home, the odd true funny story always goes down well.

If your the grom (which im assuming you are i would try and keep it to thank you's and lavishing your bride with compliments, its the best mans job the crack the majority of the jokes.

yeah i understand that but i would like to throw the odd joke is and i expect my future father in law will be expectign it as i usually take the mick out of him quite abit (but hes a minister of religion so i have to keep them clean), i have googled but they are going to be obvious ones and not that great to be honest. i think i will prob do thank yous up in a sppech then add couple jokes at a later stage to speech
  • My late Grandad made a speech at my uncles wedding, too start off he said something like - "I'll not keep you long" then he pulled out a roll of paper (the type you get in offices with holes down side) and rolled it so it ended up on the floor - gave me the giggles.

My brother in law did something very similar at his wedding - he started off saying, "I'd just like to say a few quick thank yous" and then pulled out this massive old fashioned paper scroll and kept pulling it further and further down so it ended up being huge!

The best groom's speeches are the ones that really mean something though - my boyfriend's brother has a reputation as a bit of a joker but gave the most moving, heartfelt groom's speech thanking his parents and family and of course about his new wife, to the extent that the room was in floods. There was maybe one joke in the whole thing which is incredibly out of character, but it didn't matter because it was such a great speech.

From a bride-to-be's perspective i'd rather the jokes were the best man/my dad's job. I want my other half to tell me how beautiful I am and how lucky he is, and steer clear of trying to be funny!

I've been watching 4 weddings/Wedding SOS and find that the best Groom's speeches are about their new wife. Love to see the bride looking so happy because their husband is flattering them.

Surely ALL brides want to have gushing grooms on their wedding day. And don't believe what she says before hand - too many jokes risks a falling out over the buffet! Besides at who's expense are you making the jokes? Your own or your new wife's?! BAD idea all round.

    Does anyone disagree?!

My BIL had "I'm fairly sure when I first met X it was love at first sight...It must have been...I mean, look at me!". I laughed, anyway :)
  • I think subtle jokes are nice, don't want my OH telling everyone about when we were drunk and he tried to give me a piggy back but we both ended up on the ground though!

I think my OH may make a slight reference to how we met which will make people laugh (he calls me his stalker!) but other than that i wouldnt want him cracking jokes.

Its my dads job to embarrass me with tales of when i was little girl and its the Best Mans job to crack jokes about the groom. All i want my OH to do is thank everyone and tell me how beautiful i look and how lucky he is.

    :)
