Natwest Telephone Service Is Non existent

Recently I phoned natwest telephone banking service in order to get my available balance before I left to make a purchase. (Now I have had many problems with the service as they have given me incorrect information before but this has never lead to me overspending.) They told me that my balance was £xx which was enough to make the purchase I wished to make. I made the purchase and 4 days later i received a paid refferal charge  i dont understand how i get such a charge when 1. i dont have an overdraft 2. i checked the balance. So i cant be liable.
So i phoned the telephone banking service to complain and they told me that they "can not tell me what my balance is" and that i should "watch my own money".

The paid referral charge, when did it actually go out of your account because it is UNRELATED to the purchase since that would have been a "guaranteed card payment fee" ?

Ask the bank to explain exactly what the payment is for and which payment it is for. Tell them that if they cannot answer the question then can they refund it since clearly it has been made in error.
