Apologies is this has been asked before, I did look but could not see it on here anywhere.
What do I have to do in order for my website to appear as a google search result?
As in, if you put "money saving expert" into google, then this site would be the first link........
Hope this makes sense, Thanks,

Basically
1. Go here: http://www.google.co.uk/addurl/
Then.
2. Build a good website with content that people will want to read
3. Get as many other sites to link to it as possible.

As above post, when you optimise your site, make sure it's regularly updated.
The more you update it the more google bots crawl and cache your site which increases it's rankings.
This is why SEO is becoming a popular and expensive industry. Due to the popularity of Google as a search engine companies are becoming clued in at having their websites optimised to appear as the number 1 site when searching for certain terms in Google increases their business.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Bit of a bump, but all I did was put my website address into the above link, about 2 weeks ago.
I host it myself, and had seen that Google and Bing had visited a couple of times since I set it up in December, but I didn't register on a Google search.
However for the last week or so Google has visited everyday, sometimes approximately every 30 mins.
Now my site name is #2 on Google, I'm .co.uk, and the top is .com.
I've just tried a search for a specific item, and it's there at the top.
It may not be much for you young'uns, but for an old git, who's recently taught himself some basic HTML and set up an old PC to host the site, I'm feeling pretty pleased.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
It's easy to get to the top of google with a unique phrase or set of keywords - "patagonian lobster breeding" might do the trick, but for something more mainstream - "mp3 player for sale" or "ipod accessories", it'll be much harder.0

Google info on META data I think it is. People do as above, with key words on their site in the code that gets picked up by the google bot. Done properly it can get you to number one but just putting in words unrelated to your site I think isn't liked.
Rough guide there as it's been years since I dealt with stuff like that.0 -

Quite an accomplishment
The results will vary depending on how rare your site are, the rarer the results more chance of it being on top
If your site is pretty common say Cookery, and if you find it at number 2 when you do a search for something like Chinese Cooking, that's a well optimised website
Good luck on getting it to #2 however, it will always be number 1 one you search for the websites name itself

The site was set up just to show I could do it, nothing commercial, no 'special' words or phrases, it consists of a bit of an intro and a box with an index, which links to various folders of photos, (oo er missus
).
Originally my site name, the bit before the .co.uk wasn't even listed, but there were '000s of entries with that name, where it was used as a user name on various forums, Facebook etc.
Now, since Google started visiting, 10 days ago, when I put in xxxxxxx , I am #1 of 4500.
The folder names are common words so do not show up in a single word search, but if I combine 2 folder names and search for e.g.Z+W, I'm #1 again.
Well chuffed, now I will have to find time to re write and try some other things.
