Cheaper train travel

Hi,
What are the websites for cheap train tickets. I have tried thetrainline.co.uk but it came up with the same price as normal tickets. I already have a family rail card which has halved the cost but tickets are still over £50.
Going from Clacton to Great Yarmouth so staying on the same rail company. Is there a way I can get this cheaper? 2 adults and 3 children.
Hope someone can help.

If you book it far enough in advance you may be able to get the £5 tickets which makes it cheaper. Other than that the family railcard is the cheapest you can get it.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Have always used Trainline - but, as previous post, you need to book well up front to get the best prices. (eg trip to London, for 2 of us, cost £64 a couple of months ago. Same journey / times - was priced at £522 at shorter notice. Needless to say - we drove - on the latter occasion) With the Railcard - doubt you'll do better?
There are some 'deals' on here - but works best if you're looking for a day out ..... as opposed to a specific journey? Although 'BOGOF to Stratford' ...has a certain ring to it that will have the Bard turning in his grave?

Hi OP and all
This isn't directly related to your post (I don't think Virgin do your route); but the Virgin (https://www.virgintrains.co.uk) website is run by thetrainline.com, however they often have cheap Virgin fares on there that the trainline don't seem to have.
Also- Virgin let you book two tickets when only one person has a railcard- Trainline.com doesn't. So with trainline, if you want to sit together and only one of you has a railcard then you have to both pay full price!
One last thing- the Virgin website doesn't (currently) charge you for paying on a credit card. Trainline.com does- it added £2.00 onto my ticket price recently, I was livid!
