I have a start up problem, when i start my pc it seems to crash after the 'Welcome' sign, I have to press the power button to restart my pc. I have to do this about 5 times to get my pc running.
Now, this problem started about 3 days ago, possible when Microsoft did an automatic update or even possibly AVG. I have tried to do a system restore a day beofre the updates when my pc was running perfectly well, however, each time I try the restore I get a message telling me that it has not restored to the point im selecting, I have tried further restores to the beginning of March but it will not restore.
Not being 100% certain why this problem has occurred, im thinking maybe i should just put in my XP software and just repair my pc.
Now, is there a facility on XP Home Edition that i can do this or is there another way i can find out what the problem is.
I do not want to reinstall windows XP as i do not want to lose anything but if i can use it to 'repair' an installation i would rather do that and see if that solves the problem.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and doing a system restore?[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

My work laptop takes about 5 mins to boot up now, and it does show the blue welcome screen for a long time!
Have you tried just waiting to see if it boots up eventually? Though that isn't really a solution is it?
I'll be watching this thread as it does sound similar to my situation.....0 -
there should be a repair facility when you boot from the windows xp disc. make sure you're computer is booting from cd first and try it- dont worry about it running a fresh install- it'll prompt you every step of the way. when it gets to the install or repair, choose repair- see if this helps
Or you could run a chkdsk first, see if this does anythingNorn Iron Club Member 417:beer:0 -
Actually what ive done is repaired it by using my xp disc. What ive done is reset my bios so it loads from disc drive to start with, ive restarted my pc and used the repair feature, but not the repair console. anyway im back online now uninstalled AVG, reinstalling windows SP3 and will install AVG again and see if thats the cure. All the big powers they've silenced me.
